the planet isn’t getting any cooler,

we’re buying too much,

plastic is now part of our daily diet,

too many people are in need,

and our wildlife is vanishing before our eyes.

We exist because…

We exist, because there is a better way.

Our Story

Our Vision

We dream of a different kind of world. A world without waste. A world where we value resources. A world where we revel in nature. A world of connection and a state of awe waiting around every corner. A world that can keep on giving to the generations that come next. A world, quite frankly, where we aren’t needed.

Our Mission

The Waste Not Spot is on a mission to ‘Make Circularity a Reality!’ Not just a compliance checkbox and not a “nice-to-have.” We can finally close up shop when everyone looks through the lens of sustainability (people and planet, THEN profit) to carry out their decisions.

Our Purpose

We are here to challenge the status quo and help build better systems that make circularity visible and impactful for the people and places that need it the most. ‘It can’t be done’ is just simply not in our vocabulary. You’re the will, we’re the way.

Our Values

We geek out on values a bit, because as humans, we all share the same set, albeit, just primed differently.

Here are the values that are primed most for us.

Stewardship

We care deeply for people and planet, and act like it.

Collaboration

We don’t believe in ego.
We believe in ecosystems.

Fun!

We can get serious business done whilst enjoying what we do.

Having a Go

We roll up our sleeves and try, learn, and then try better, forever.

Justice

We know social and environmental justice go hand-in-hand.

Hi there, I’m Caitlyn Socwell, Founder of
The Waste Not Spot

Hailing from the Home of the Hamburger, a small town in Wisconsin, USA, having lived for a decade Down Under, and now coming to you from the Low Lands, I am your fellow ‘Austrameripean.’ I tend to get around….the world, that is.

I am a Doctor of Physiotherapy turned Doctor of Waste, and am forever an aspiring game-changer. I began my professional career by wanting to make a difference in people’s lives, advocating for their health and accessibility. This blossomed to include all people and the planet. And waste was my gateway drug.

Gone are the days where sustainability is a compliance checkbox or just for the hippies.

I’m on a personal mission to mainstream sustainability and make sure that it is the lens through which we all look whenever we are making decisions. Where to travel, what to gift mum for her birthday, or how to  make a positive impact in our value chains?

And I’ve been growing a global community who are on that same mission. Through newsletters, podcast episodes, projects and events, I continue to work with others in helping them understand circularity in simple terms, and how to introduce it into their organisation and community so we can edge a bit closer to a sustainable world.

I am here to help people, communities and organisations transition to the new circular economy for a better people and planet.

In addition to The Waste Not Spot, I am also the Co-founder of Caribbean Blue Solutions, tackling the Sargassum seaweed crisis in the Caribbean, and the co-host of the Millennials Gone Circular podcast.

I look forward to working with you in leaving the world a bit better than we found it!

Sustainability is the goal, Circularity is the tool.
